Update November 26, 2020 | Next Generation Founders
About this episode
An honest look behind the scenes
It's time for an open and honest update about current events in my world as a founder. Recent months have brought many highlights: the Business Punk cover, being selected for Forbes 30 under 30, and numerous exciting interviews that you can find on social media.
The other side of the coin
Today, however, I want to talk about things that might not be going so well – the aspects of founder life that you simply don't see on social media. Because the reality of being an entrepreneur consists of more than just glossy cover stories and awards.
Social media usually only shows us the highlights, the perfect moments, and the big successes. But behind these often hide challenges, setbacks, and moments of doubt that are just as much part of the founder's daily life as the success stories.
Authenticity in the startup scene
As part of the next generation of founders, it's important to remain authentic and also address the less glamorous sides of entrepreneurship. Only this way can we help other founders develop realistic expectations and understand that success isn't linear.
The startup scene needs more honesty about:
- –The emotional highs and lows of entrepreneurship
- –Financial uncertainties and cash flow problems
- –Difficult personnel decisions
- –Moments of self-doubt
- –The challenge of finding work-life balance
Learning from challenges
Every challenge also offers a learning opportunity. The difficult times are often when we grow the most – both personally and entrepreneurially. They force us to become creative, set priorities, and focus on what's essential.
Resources for the founder journey
For everyone who is on the founder path or wants to embark on it, there are some valuable resources I can recommend. Particularly Simon Sinek's book "Start with Why" offers important insights about building a company with a clear vision.
Conclusion
The path as a young entrepreneur is marked by ups and downs. While successes should be celebrated, it's equally important to speak openly about challenges. Only this way can we create an authentic founder culture that helps others and sets realistic expectations.
The next generation of founders deserves to know the whole truth about entrepreneurship – not just the shiny surface that's presented on social media.
