#FemaleFebruary Recap: Fabian on the t3n Podcast
About this episode
28 regular episodes plus 8 additional interviews later, #FemaleFebruary is already history. What started as an experimental month has become one of the most defining experiences in my podcasting journey. On the t3n podcast, I spoke with Insa Schniedermeier about why I launched this initiative and what insights I gained from it.
Why #FemaleFebruary?
The idea for #FemaleFebruary emerged from observing that female founders in the German startup scene are still underrepresented – both as podcast guests and in public perception. Instead of just talking about it, I wanted to actively do something about it.
February offered itself as the perfect timeframe: short enough to function as an experiment, but long enough to really dive deep. The goal was to exclusively feature successful female founders, investors, and female executives from the tech and startup world.
What I Learned
The 36 conversations showed me that the challenges and success factors of female founders are often different from those of their male colleagues. Many of the women I spoke with brought a different approach to problem-solving – often more empathetic, more sustainable, and with a stronger focus on societal relevance.
At the same time, it became clear that there's no lack of competence or vision. Rather, it's structural barriers and unconscious biases that lead to female founders receiving less attention and capital.
#FemaleFebruary also demonstrated how hungry the audience is for these stories. The response was overwhelming – from both female and male listeners who had been wanting more female role models in the founder scene.
The Genesis and Growth of My Podcast
In my conversation with Insa, we also discussed the beginnings of the podcast. What started as a side project has developed over the years into a serious business. The journey wasn't always linear – there were phases of doubt, technical challenges, and the constant question of finding the right balance between authentic content and economic sustainability.
Monetization didn't happen overnight. It took several years before the podcast generated enough revenue to function as a primary income source. This process required patience, consistency, and above all, the trust of the community that built up over time.
More Than Just an Experiment
#FemaleFebruary was more than just a one-month experiment – it was a statement. It showed that it's possible to consciously amplify diverse voices without losing quality or relevance. On the contrary: the diversity of perspectives enriched the content and opened up new target audiences.
For other podcasters and content creators, the most important insight is probably this: diversity isn't a nice-to-have, it's a business case. The different experiences and approaches lead to better content and reach a broader audience.
Outlook
Although #FemaleFebruary is officially over, the learnings remain. It's not about having a diversity month once a year, but about continuously paying attention to balanced representation. The founder scene needs all talents – regardless of gender.
The complete conversation with all details about the learnings and the podcast's genesis is available on the t3n podcast. It's worth diving deeper into these topics, as they don't just affect podcasters, but the entire startup community.
